When I was a kid water wasn’t such a big deal. You drank out of the tap. Any tap for that matter. We lived in the Rocky Mountains! Essentially the place that people went to get that glacial bottled water. Well in my mind that was the case because I tasted that Evian water and I thought the water out of the sink was nicer. But even still I was warned to not drink water from the streams or rivers. That that water was off limits due to the potential of getting Giardia. However, one day, when it was especially hot and my friends I were riding our bikes on the bike path between towns I was super thirsty. We stopped at the the stream we were occasionally riding over and I dared to drink that water. Full well knowing that I could get sick. There was a conversation between us as too if it would make me sick. It was the general consensus that a little bit would be fine. So I drank some. Now this does not have the dire ending I am leading to. I was fine, but I was worried for some time after. I also learned a valuable lesson. Sometimes, you are going to make mistakes. In this instance I didn’t fill up my water bottle before I left. To this day, I am well prepared to be hydrated in any instance. But the bigger lesson is that even though I didn’t get sick from doing something that I knew was not safe, I did it anyway and in doing this I potentially opened a door in my mind to make it ok to do this again. Now I am wired to shut these doors. But as an analogy, this represents a view of the world we live in today. The internet is very much a body of water and not all of it is safe to drink. Yet we do. Over and over again. The horrible part about all of this, is there are no physical side effects. No health threats as such. However your mind can be incredibly poisoned. Thanks everyone for listening! I am keen to get questions from you so that I can adjust and do more with the show.
